Woodgreen began with an extraordinary site, a prominent granite boulder overlooking the coastline. Rather than resist the conditions of the land, the design embraced them fully. The home is conceived as an extension of the terrain itself, stepping naturally from the rock and using elevation as both a design advantage and a guiding principle.
From the street, the residence presents a composed and grounded presence. Strong gabled forms, dark standing seam roofing, and a restrained palette of timber, masonry, and metal create a silhouette that feels both timeless and contemporary. The design draws from traditional precedents, yet is distilled through a modern lens where proportion, simplicity, and material contrast do the work of ornament.
Arrival was carefully considered as a sequence of compression and release. The approach is private and understated, allowing the home to reveal itself gradually before opening into a dramatic interior volume oriented entirely toward the water beyond. This progression heightens the experience of entering the house and reinforces the sense that the view is something to be discovered rather than immediately given away.
At the heart of Woodgreen is the disciplined use of view corridors. Major living spaces, circulation paths, and upper-level rooms were positioned to capture framed moments of ocean, skyline, and forest canopy. Rather than rely solely on expansive glazing, the design uses structure, openings, and alignment to curate perspectives, allowing each room its own distinct relationship to the landscape.
The rear elevation opens broadly to terraces, poolside living, and uninterrupted coastal outlooks. Here, the design becomes lighter and more transparent, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior life. Covered outdoor areas provide shelter and year-round usability, while upper terraces extend private rooms outward into the landscape.
What defines Woodgreen is not excess, but control. It is a home shaped by topography, sharpened by views, and resolved through proportion. It demonstrates how thoughtful design can elevate daily life when it listens closely to the land beneath it and the horizon beyond it.
