Conceived as an estate in the woods, Cedar Grove began with a 10-acre forested parcel where the landscape itself guided every architectural decision. From the approach to the placement and layout of the separate structures, the intent was always to respect the visual massing of the property and allow the home to feel as though it had emerged naturally from its surroundings.
From the arrival, the residence presents a composed and confident façade. European in sensibility yet interpreted through a modern architectural lens, the design relies on proportion, silhouette, and materiality rather than ornamentation to establish presence. The central arched entry creates a moment of arrival that feels both classic and welcoming, while the balanced rooflines and aligned openings reinforce a sense of calm order.
What defines Cedar Grove, however, is its quiet play on unsymmetrical symmetry. While the home reads as symmetrical at first glance, subtle shifts in massing, depth, and form create visual interest without disrupting the overall simplicity. This careful balance is what gives the architecture its captivating restraint, simple, yet richly detailed.
A restrained palette of white masonry, dark metal accents, and subtle textural variation allows light and shadow to animate the façade throughout the day. These materials, timeless in nature, are executed with contemporary precision that softens their formality and introduces warmth. The home feels substantial without feeling heavy, refined without feeling rigid.
Inside, the architecture continues a dialogue between openness and intimacy. Long, framed views draw the eye through the home and into the surrounding forest, making the landscape an ever-present part of the living experience. Expansive rooms are balanced with more sheltered moments, ensuring the scale feels both grand and comfortable.
Cedar Grove is not defined by bold gestures, but by composure and intention. It demonstrates how architecture can feel ordered yet organic, symmetrical yet relaxed, and how a home can settle quietly into its environment while still leaving a lasting architectural impression.
